BOND HEARINGS

Some crimes already have a set bond amount and can be posted quickly after a person is arrested. For those with no bond, or a bond amount that is unaffordable, the holistic gathering of information about the accused’s life and community ties becomes critical for presentation to the court for reconsideration.

DEFENSE OF CRIMINAL OFFENSES:

A criminal offense (a crime) is a type of wrongdoing that society views as offending not just the specific victim, but also the sensibilities of society as a whole. A conviction can result in jail, prison, and/or probationary consequences, can result in denials for housing, credit, and work, and carries a risk of deportation for non-citizens. No one should consider entering a plea without first consulting an attorney for legal advice.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INJUNCTIONS:

A/k/a ‘restraining order’ – a civil action alleging an act of domestic violence (including repeat violence, dating violence, and sexual violence). Can also be filed by a parent/guardian on behalf of a minor. If an injunction is granted by the court, the Respondent will lose the right to possess firearms.

MISDEMEANORS:

A criminal charge which may be punishable by up to 12 months in jail, probation, and a fine. The time limits for trial are shorter in this type of case so call for a consult as soon as you receive any type of court document.

RECORD SEALING & EXPUNGEMENTS:

Is a prior criminal record or arrest preventing you from getting a better job/housing/credit? Sealing or Expunction of an arrest or criminal charge will help you overcome your past and rebuild your future with a clean record.

SERIOUS FELONIES:

These are crimes that are potentially punishable by more than a year in prison such as robbery, kidnapping, burglary, and murder. A conviction will also mean the suspension of several civil rights: the right to vote, serve on a jury or possess firearms. The risk of deportation for non-US citizens is high, so obtain legal advice before entering any plea in a felony case.
